Tunisian Chained Hearts Block - Cozy Fall Charity MAL 2022

Tunisian Chained Hearts Block - Cozy Fall Charity MAL 2022

The Cozy Fall Charity MAL is a blanket make-a-long hosted by Noors Knits and Knitting with Chopsticks.  Every weekday for the month of October 2022 an 8"x8" crochet, Tunisian crochet, and a knit square design are shared.

The purpose of the MAL is to raise funds for the non-profit organization Cure Childhood Cancer.

The Chained Hearts Block is #16 of 20 squares that make part of a blanket that is made during a Make Along that stretches from 3 October until 28 October 2022.

About the Cozy Fall MAL 2022

This is the first time I am part of the Cozy Fall Charity MAL collaboration and I am so honored that Noorain asked me to participate this year.  I will share ONLY the Tunisian Crochet of this MAL, but you are welcome to visit the above-mentioned websites for crochet and knit patterns from designers all over the world.

l Where can I find out more about this MAL?

You can find all the links to the different square patterns on Knitting with Chopsticks This is the 16th of 20, released on 24 October 2022.  You can also find the 4th square here on my blog tutorials, released on 6th October 2022, called the Lacy Cabled Block.  Just look for it under the tutorials menu.  Hop over to Noors Knits' website to see all the other squares.  And if you haven't joined this MAL yet, now is the time.  Just click below:

l Is there anything in it for me to take part in this make-along?

Off course we haven't forgot our loyal participants.  There are awesome giveaways available for you.  When you purchase a pattern bundle of any of the 3 crafts or the Trifecta Bundle, your name will automatically go into a ruffle at the end of this MAL to win 1 of 3 amazing giveaways.

So please do consider to purchase a bundle as a part of the proceeds will go to the charity CURE (Cure Childhood Cancer).

Winners will be announced via Instagram LIVE (@noorsknits and @knittingwithchopsticks) on November 2nd at 12 pm CST/1 PM EST. Each winner will also be contacted via e-mail.

l What if I want all of the patterns for the squares NOW?

This is no problem as there is a pdf bundle available that you can get at a discounted price from now through to the end of this MAL. Just choose your favorite craft, click on the link below and you will go to the bundle purchase for that craft.  This will give you a total of 20 patterns for only a few cents per pattern.  That is not all, if you want ALL 60 patterns, just upgrade your order to the Trifecta Bundle when you clicked on any of the selected crafts below and you will get all 60 patterns for only $35.

Your name will go into the giveaway ruffle AND you give to charity through this action.

So please consider buying your favorite bundle below!

l How do we donate our finished squares/blankets?

When you've finished up your squares and blankets, below is a list of charities that are accepting squares/blankets to donate to people in need. Make sure you contact them anyways to confirm since things are always changing. You can find full details and links of where and how to send squares/blankets on the main MAL blog post HERE.

Chained Hearts Block - Pattern

For the more adventurous Tunisian crochet cable enthusiast, this block incorporates cables in such a way that it constructs hearts and chains to create this Chained Hearts pattern.  It is worked in Tunisian Knit Stitch and Tunisian Purl Stitch.

l Where do I start?

Don't let the look or sound of this pattern scare you. If you know the basics of Tunisian Crochet, you will get the hang of this pattern very quickly.  There is a support video at the end of this page that you can watch to help you if you struggle with the written pattern or if you just need some guidance or tips.

Under the Pattern Notes, you will find videos on the Tunisian Knit Stitch and Tunisian Purl Stitch.  You can start by watching these videos if you are familiar with the basics of Tunisian Crochet but not with a variation of stitches.

l Pattern notes

  • This pattern is written in American Terminology, where conventional crochet terms are concerned.
  • This pattern is worked in a multiple of 25 + 7.
  • Only spray block after completion (this will keep the cables in shape).
  • Take note of the STICKY NOTES at the Special Stitches.
  • When working the return pass of a cabled row, make sure you close each stitch separately and in the correct order.
  • When working the next forward pass after a cable row, make sure you are working into each stitch of the cable section not to skip or work in more than one stitch simultaneously.
  • This step is omitted in the instructions for the start of the (Forward) and should be considered:
  • Skip the first vertical bar directly below the loop on the hook during each forward pass and continue with pattern instructions.
  • (Return) is worked as for TSS as follows:
  •  “YO, pull through 1 loop on hook, *YO and pull through 2; rep from * until ONE loop rem”, except where instructions show differently.
Tks (Tunisian Knit Stitch)

(Forward): Insert hook between the two V-bars, yarn over and pull up a loop.

(Return): YO, pull through 1 loop on hook, *YO and pull through 2; rep from * until ONE loop remains.

Sticky notes:

Tks'es are mainly worked on the cable sections.

To close the last row

Close each stitch with a slip stitch. You will work each st as you worked the stitch patterns, but complete the stitch as a sl st as follows:

Sl st 5 Tps-wise, sl st 2 Tks-wise, sl st 4 Tps-wise, sl st 8 Tks-wise, sl st 4 Tps-wise, sl st 2 Tks-wise, sl st 5 Tps-wise, sl st last st Tss-wise.

Do not cut yarn.

Edge

Change to size 5mm crochet hook, ch1, and work single crochet stitches into each edge stitch. At the corners, make 1 ch before you continue to the next side (I worked the single crochet stitches into the back loops of each stitch to create a frame around the block). Cut yarn and sew away yarn tails.

Spray the block on the wrong side of the block piece.

STICKY NOTE: If you want to increase or decrease stitches on the sides of this block to join it to another

block with more or fewer stitches, place Place Markers equally apart on the edge where you will increase or

decrease stitches.
